Edit: Looks like not everyone who lost in the first round tried out for the special event. I guess the odds weren't quite so daunting after all.
When I lost round 1 of =ProfessorM's Desire OCT, I figured that I'd made some mistaken guesses about the nature of my audience's preferences. Or maybe I was just a talentless hack.
Since I couldn't do much about the second possibility, I tried making a different set of literary gambits. It looks like I did something right.
